Case
Study - Yousef Khanfar
Photographer: Yousef
Khanfar - New York
Project: Scans
and Custom Files for his book, "In Search of Peace" and
his accompanying exhibition.
Camera/Film: Large
Format 4X5 Linhof Master Technica camera with three lenses:
75mm; 210mm; and 360mm.
Fuji Velvia film.
Goal: Khanfar
wanted to ensure consistent print quality in both his book and
his fine art prints.
Solution:
Turning to West Coast Imaging for excellent scans, with printmaker
Terrance Reimer interpreting his images for prints
and CMYK files for his book.
In
Khanfar's Words:
"Photography
can rise to the most sublime moments of humanity. After Sept 11,
2001, I wanted to create an uplifting message of hope and peace to
mankind using landscape as my metaphor for maximum personal and artistic
expression.
When
the time came to publish my new book, In Search of Peace,
I wanted to make sure that this body of work was consistent in
print quality in both the book and the exhibition. So, I looked
to my partner West Coast Imaging, who has done an excellent
job in the scanning and interpretation of my images, making
sure that the beauty of the images, as I captured it on the original
film, is expressed as a true fine art print.
Last
year I was delighted that my book was the winner of the 2007
Independent Publisher Outstanding Book of the Year. I was also
as delighted that Mont Blanc and UNICEF selected me one of the
artists of the year to help raise funds to fight illiteracy around
the world, which is something I believe in strongly. I still
contribute this success to paying attention to quality."
