"It’s easy to be a photographer here in Colorado," said Jay Goodrich. "There are places like the Maroon Bells, which are two of the most photographed peaks in the world. One of the reasons I’ve been able to be successful is that I don't sit there and take the shot that everyone has taken. It’s great to get that photo, but move on. (Places like the Maroon Bells) are amazing places to go--not because of the typical photograph, but because there are so many other things to photograph there."

For Goodrich, photography isn't about taking snapshots of pretty places. He analyzes an area, researches it, then creates images that capture the essence of that place. In places like the Maroon Bells, it's about capturing the mountain peaks, as well as finding the small elements and details that create the place--including the patterns, the reflections, the wildlife, the weather, and the light.

West Coast Imaging has enjoyed scanning and printing dozens of Goodrich's images. For smaller prints and less critical images, he has us scan the images, then he works on the images in Photoshop and prints them on his Epson 7600.

"I recently had WCI scan close to 100 of my images for my portfolio and again was pleasantly surprised when I began opening up the files; they needed less touch-up and color correcting then all the other companies that I have dealt with in the past," Goodrich said. "It’s unbelievable how much better the prints look compared to scans I made on my Nikon CoolScan. The CoolScan is great to scan a bunch of photos to put them on my website and to make 8x10s, but for anything bigger, WCi's scans are the way to go."

For larger images, or more critical applications, he uses our Exhibition Print service, which includes a scan, the imaging work, and the final print.

"If I want to really knock someone's socks off, (West Coast Imaging) will make the prints instead of me," Goodrich said. "They do a better job than I do. But I make the smaller prints, because I can cut my costs."

Goodrich's images have been solicited and published by companies and magazines including 5280-Denver’s Mile High Magazine, Alaska, Bike, Couloir, Dirt Rag, Freeskier, Frontier Airlines, Great Divide Brewing Company, Lakota River Guides, Mountainfreak, The Mountaineers Books, National Geographic Explorer, The North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), Outdoor Photographer, Paddler, Patagonia Clothing, Powder, and Sierra Club. He is also a contributing photographer to Powder, Freeskier, and Couloir Magazines and teaches several photography workshops each year.

In addition to his traditional landscape and adventure photography, Goodrich recently acquired his pilot's license, and is creating a portfolio of aerial images of Colorado. We look forward to working with Goodrich has he pursues this new direction. In the meantime, we invite you to take a few minutes to browse through a portfolio of images on our site, then visit his website for more information about Goodrich.

"West Coast Imaging is quite honestly the best photo imaging company I have ever worked with, period," Goodrich said. "Whether I am having them produce 4'x5' Exhibition prints from my 35mm slides or high-resolution scans of my original transparencies, they have exceeded my expectations every single time. Their prints exude color and clarity that I have never witnessed with conventional printmaking. Their master printers work with you to achieve what you are looking for from your image. Whenever I am expecting a print from WCI, I wait for the UPS driver with the anticipation that I did when I was five years old waiting for Santa to come, only now I don’t fall asleep prior to the delivery."

Goodrich is based in Eagle, Colorado, where he lives with his wife, Heather and their newborn daughter, Jade.
