David
Maisel
While still a student, David traveled to the volcano Mount Saint Helens, and began his ongoing project of shooting aerial images of "landscapes of destruction". After St. Helens, David turned his camera on such environmentally impacted areas as clearcut logging sites and open-pit strip mines, creating images of a strange and haunting beauty. These photographs, collectively titled "Exposed Terrain," have been exhibited in the Whitney Museum of American Art and the International Museum of Photography, published in Communication Arts, and collected by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and others. They have also garnered David a National Endowment for the Arts Grant and a nomination for the International Center of Photographys Infinity Award. West
