Questions About Giclée Prints
What
are Giclée prints?
The word "giclée" (pronounced gee-clay) is French, meaning "to
spray." Several years ago, the word was coined as a marketing term, since "giclée" sounds
fancier than "digital print" or "inkjet print." It also
signifies a fine art reproduction, as opposed to a print made for a tradeshow,
or other commercial uses. The name is here to stay, and has become a standard
term within the digital printing industry.
What
distinguishes a giclée print from other types of inkjet
prints is the type of paper you use. Basically, any inkjet print
made on art paper or canvas qualifies as a Giclée print.
How
long do your giclée prints last?

I
have a large piece of artwork I need to reproduce. Can you
do this for me?
Of course! We can either work from your original artwork, or
a good copy transparency. Learn
more about this process.
Can
I gang up several images onto a larger sheet?
We do not offer this service. We price our individual prints
extremely competitively, and we've found that ordering prints individually
saves money in the long run--you aren't paying for unnecessary
prints, just to take up space on a sheet; and you only order (and
are charged) for what you need.
I
need large borders on my prints. Can you do this?
Sure! Let's say you want a 16x20 image with a 1 inch border.
Since all of our prices are based on the final output size of the
print (including borders), you would need to order an 18x22 print.
What
kind of printers do you use for your Giclee prints?
Depending on the image we are printing, we use one of three printers:
the Epson 9800 with K3 Inks, the Epson 9600 with Ultrachrome
Inks, or the Epson 10000 with Epson Archival Inks.
What
kind of paper should I use?
It's up to you. Each paper offers a different surface, and reacts with ink
in unique ways. If you're unsure, feel free to contact
us--we can recommend a paper or canvas that will work well with your artwork.
