Laurie
"I'll
let you in on a little secret. It might sound silly, but keeping things
in order is what I like to do. When I was a little girl I would pretend
that I worked in an office. At that time, little did I know that I
would be doing this when I grew up! I truly like what I do!," said
Laurie Allen, Administrative Assistant and Customer Service Specialist
at West Coast Imaging.
Laurie performs
a wide variety of tasks-- from sending out paper samples and information
about our business to interested artists; answering questions on the phone
or email; invoicing jobs and general office procedure to keeping up our
Coca-Cola and coffee supply and buying the birthday cards for fellow staff
members.
"My
favorite part of the job is talking to our clients. I try my best to get
them the answers they need—whether if it’s from me or someone
else here."
One of Laurie’s
most important tasks is the very first step in making a print or scan:
Checking in the order. As you might suspect, every order is different—it’s
common to receive an order with three different print sizes on three different
types of paper. It takes a clear mind to ensure the customer’s
desires are accurately translated into our job system.
"When
I’m checking in an order, I just concentrate on that single one.
I clean off my desk, so it’s the only thing that’s there.
And then I get to see all of the beautiful images. I’m knowledgeable
about what I’m doing and if I have any questions, I’ll contact
the client right away."
Laurie says
the eight years she spent working as Office Manager at the Fresno Metropolitan
Museum of Art ties into her current position in many ways.
"The
museum taught me an appreciation of the art and how to work with artists.
I loved seeing an exhibit go up from start to finish. Here, it’s
the same thing. The end product is beautiful. I love that there is art
in the world that people can appreciate. And I love being a part of creating
it."

phones at West Coast Imaging).
