Melanie Crutchfield - Custom Printmaker When Custom Printmaker Melanie Crutchfield makes a print, she gives each image a great deal of thought and consideration. “Printmaking is a subjective, creative art that needs care and attention to be the greatest it can be,” she said. “There are several things I do to an image that are second nature to me, like making sure the density and color balance are right—I can do that in seconds. Then I have time to go a little further; to go another step.” To Melanie, printmaking is about telling stories, and her goal is to help communicate each photographer's story clearly and concisely. “I go back and forth from where I started to where I am, asking questions like: Did I move in a positive direction? Have I lost any mood or feeling along the way? Is that image sitting in front of me alive and saying what it’s supposed to say?” Melanie is a storyteller herself, writing her own songs and performing them live. She also expresses herself through photography, baking, cooking, painting, and exploring other creative outlets. “Everything that I do here, and everyone that I work with, inspires me to be a better artist,” Melanie said. “The more I grow as an artist in random ways, the more it benefits my printing. It’s all tied together and flows seemlessly from my home life to my work life.” “Mastering digital printing doesn’t mean that you’ve seen everything under the sun. It means that you’re growing at the same pace the industry is growing,” she said. “Everytime something new comes out, it gives us one more opportunity to serve our clients, and one more opportunity to expand their creative borders.”
